In this installment, Dr. Cartner maintains that the maritime industry is unprepared for cybersecurity attacks with a lack of industry standards and best practices, and this “insidious, dangerous” threat exposes shipowners, operators and shipping companies to significant liability. He states that this vulnerability will inevitably lead to a “serious disaster’ and suggests steps that can be taken, from preparation to training to attempt to mitigate the effects of such an event before it happens.
