Maritime TV is pleased to re-launch the Internet TV series known as "Conversations with Cartner", a regular video discussion on maritime industry issues of the day led by Shipmaster and Maritime Attorney, Dr. John A.C. Cartner along with participating industry professionals.
In this installment, Dr. Cartner is interviewed along with Joe Keefe, Editor of Marine Logistics Professional Magazine and MarineNews Magazine, on issues and new ideas surrounding training at the State Maritime Academies and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), stimulated by a recent article Joe Keefe recently wrote entitled Domestic Maritime Training: In Extremis that appeared at www.MarineLink.com.
In this Conversation with Cartner, John and Joe address the concept of treating all of these academies as a coordinated “Virtual” Maritime University System using the strengths of each school to share academic resources. The importance of building the National Security Multi-Mission Vessels (NSMV) to replace the aging state academy training ships is discussed, along with re-creation of a graduate curriculum at the USMMA in the form of a National Maritime Center of Excellence that all the academies’ graduates could use. Finally, there is discussion about offering the resources of all of the academies to state and federal government agencies that require maritime training…a cost-effective utilization of this ‘Virtual’ Maritime University System that would enhance its value to our nation.
Thanks for watching Maritime TV!
